This information only pertains to Hurricane Electric's Shared Web Hosting package. There may be different information in our other categories.

Hurricane Electric now offers Secondary Domains for most new Virtual Web Hosting accounts. This allows you to serve websites for multiple domains under one account. Popular uses for this feature are:

  • setting up a test environment for a new website
  • giving out subdomains to members of your family
  • multi-branded web presence (example.net and example.org in addition to example.com)

Adding a domain

Adding a new Secondary Domain is simple. Simply go to the Customer Login and click Add Domain.

Enter the chosen domain in the entry box, then hit Add Domain!

Once created, you will be moved back to the main menu.

Note: If adding a new domain unrelated to your current domain (example.biz), you will need to register the domain and set your authoritative nameservers to ours. If adding a subdomain of your current domain (test.example.com), no additional steps need to be taken.

Adding web content

Adding web content to your new Secondary Domain is also easy. Just upload your content to the new directory created for your domain:

/home/USERNAME/public_html/www.example.biz

If you've added a subdomain, the directory will look more like:

/home/USERNAME/public_html/test.example.com

FAQ

  • Do you provide email service for these domains?

We provide Secondary Domains as an additional feature to our current webhosting platform. If you need email service for your domain, you'll need to sign up for a new account.
